First Take
First Take offers early stage musicians an exciting package of professional studio time, industry mentoring and production to help them invest in their creative work, develop their skills, and finish and release their music.
Creative Communities Creating Change
Creative Communities Creating Change (4Cs) is a new Creative Health programme which has been funded for 3 years to support young people aged 11–19 and parents and carers across Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Croydon. The programme is based at Raw Material’s community hub in Brixton and combines creative practice, community-based support and evidence-informed wellbeing approaches.
In The Mix
Bi-Monthly
In The Mix provides young creatives the chance to connect, share and work towards their projects in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Young Producers
Weekly, on Wednesdays (term time)
The course is all about giving young people access to advanced production equipment, giving them the skills and confidence to create their own music and begin their own creative journey in music.
Collective Sessions
Weekly, on Thursdays (term time)
Collective Sessions brings together musicians, producers, songwriters/singers and rappers of all levels to collaborate on new music in our studios and live room. Throughout this 10 week programme, you’ll work as a collective to write and record original music in small groups and bands.
DJing
Weekly, on Thursdays (term time)
A rare chance to learn how to DJ, using Serato software. Learn how to mix tracks from different genres, match different beats per minute and develop skills to perform a live DJ mix. Members will be offered a portable controller which they can loan for the duration of the course, to practise at home.
Mindful Music
Weekly, on Tuesdays (term time)
Playing music can be a great way to release emotion, feel relaxed and to connect with other people. The ‘mindful music’ jam sessions are focused on group music making - building grooves, exploring sounds, playing the drums and creating new music in the moment.
The Voice
Weekly, on Wednesdays (term time)
Learn how to use your voice as a singer or rapper, getting the most out of your own personal instrument. Everybody has their own unique voice, so why not focus on treating your voice well, learning techniques in how to expand your capacity, and make music together with others.
Guitar Sessions
Weekly, on Tuesdays (term time)
A chance for beginner and intermediate level guitarists to enhance their technique and skills. Learn basic chord structures and guitar technique, how to read chord charts and take part in solo and group songs.
BeatLab
Weekly, on Tuesdays (term time)
Get to know all of the ins and outs of audio-producing software BeatLab. This is a chance for budding engineers and beat makers to learn some early skills in music production. Sessions will include skills such as: exploring loops and importing samples, understanding notation and composing melodies, learning how to mix down a track, and understanding timing and rhythm.
