Tips for a Successful Pitch

  • VOICE is Vital

Audiences are easily distracted. Use your voice to emphasise, create theatre, convey passion/emotion – avoid blandness.

  • Focus on 1 or 2 key points you want your audience to go away thinking/knowing/feeling. Thread throughout your pitch. Keep slides, message simple!

  • Structure helps maintain clarity of message, drive the pitch, and avoid awkward silences, over talking and non-verbal fillers (e.g. ‘um’).

  • Focus your ending on the audience with ‘you’ – avoid ‘I’ (making it about yourself)

    • “The one thing I want you to take away”

    • “The most important thing I want you to go away with today is XYZ…”

    • “If there is one thing I want you to remember is…”

Link your ending back to your presentation’s main aims/points.

Below is a ‘mock pitch’ to help give an idea of a clear and concise pitch.
