Duty Manager — Traineeship

We have recently reopened our doors after closing for the retrofit of our building. We’re now very proudly presenting our new resources whilst running our own series of events under the name Tiny Brixton, showcasing exciting new talent from music, comedy and spoken word. We are increasing the usage of our spaces outside daytime hours for hires, events, artists rehearsals, workshops and other projects and are looking for the Duty Manager to be our person responsible during these hours. 

We are looking to recruit a new Duty Manager who is personable, organised and responsible. They will play a major role in the delivery of high quality customer service and representing our organisation.

Responsibilities will include:  leading front of house operation, coordinating volunteers/Event Assistants, setting up a bar and managing income taken, overseeing and maintaining building health and safety. 

This position carries considerable responsibility as the Duty Manager will regularly be left in charge of building, including locking up.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate:

  • An understanding of great customer service 

  • Excellent organisational skills 

  • A positive ‘can do’ approach

  • Ability to manage the manual handling (including lifting, carrying) of alcohol.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal 

  • Ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team 

  •  A genuine interest in the arts 

  • A flexible attitude and schedule that allows for ad hoc work

Work Experience Coordinator 2025 (freelance)

In response to significant demand every year for young people to gain work experience at Raw Material, we are looking for an experienced project manager or facilitator who will: 

  • In consultation with Raw Material team members, develop a week-long structured course for small groups of young people aged 16-19 which covers suitable aspects of work experience in a cultural and community setting (such as Raw Material)

  • facilitate 2 small groups of young people on the course over a 2 week period (one group per week) in the summer holidays

The role

  • To co-design and develop a week-long work experience programme for small groups of young people 16-19 based at Raw Material which can be used this year and in future years. 

  • To support recruitment and consultation with young people prior to the course to capture areas of desired development. 

  • To lead and facilitate 2 groups of young people through the course

Guest Programme Facilitator

Be Employed To Share Your Creative Skills

  • Raw Material invites artists, facilitators and creative practitioners to lead a programme which benefits members of our community.

  • Applicants submit a video proposal which is shown to members at Raw’s termly Programming Committee.

  • Each term, the Programming Committee selects 1 or 2 new guest programmes out of 10 video proposals to run in the new term

What Are We Looking For?

We welcome proposals of any of the following types of programme:

  • A school-holiday intensive course (10h / week) for our youngest members (11-16 year olds).

  • An intensive 1-week course (10h / week) for adults.

  • A creative, career development course (2h / week for 5 weeks) for young adults (18-30 year olds).

  • A creative health and wellbeing course (2h / week for 5 weeks) for adults or young people experiencing a mental health condition.
