Join Raw Material As
Sound Engineering Course Design Lead
We are in the process of developing a new exciting offer for 2026 - our first Sound Engineering Course for young people aged 16-30, in 2026. The course will give participants a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of studio and live sound engineering. Through a combination of theoretical and practical instruction, participants will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to record and engineer audio in a range of settings.
At this stage, we are looking for an experienced creative practitioner to take on the role of Design Lead - consulting on and leading the design of the course. This will include the content, structure, accreditation approach, and potential progression routes, as detailed below. We’re looking for an experienced facilitator and recording engineer to develop the programme, with the view to stepping into the role of Course Leader on the programme from 2026.

Key Considerations
-
Structure
Raw operates a ten-week term for programmes, (3 times a year), following the school calendar. The Sound Engineering programme has been provisionally budgeted as a 20 week course (once a week), but there is scope for some flexibility with this.
-
AQA (or Equivalent Qualification)
The Design Lead may want to consider developing something akin to AQA units for the programme to ensure any individuals who discontinue the course midway are still able to obtain a tangible outcome.
-
Progression Routes
It would be good to consider where participants can put their skills into practice as part of the programme. We’ve already been in touch with the Roundhouse, Royal Albert Hall and Brixton House about potential shadowing opportunities / placements, for example.
-
Resources
An outline of what will be needed in terms of equipment and access to space.
-
Equipment & Tech
Considerations around what will be needed to successfully deliver the programme. A full tech list of what we have at Raw Material will be made available.
-
Outcomes
We want to ensure participants gain the confidence to pursue a career in sound engineering.
Application process
If you would like to apply for this position, please submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by Sunday 13 July. Your EOI should include a one-page outline of your proposal that covers:
