A psychologically informed writing programme that turns feelings into powerful creative work.

PENsiv is a supportive, creative writing programme designed to help participants explore their inner world, build confidence, and transform raw expression into crafted poems and stories. Drawing on insights from psychology, the workshops explore the difference between expressive writing (writing to understand and process emotions) and creative writing (writing shaped for meaning, structure, and impact).

Across the programme, participants will experiment, reflect, collaborate, and develop their own creative voice in a low-pressure, inclusive environment. No prior writing experience is needed.

What you’ll gain

  • Increased creative confidence and emotional awareness

  • Practical writing tools to develop poems and short creative pieces

  • Experience transforming freewriting into structured, intentional work

  • Opportunities to collaborate, share, and perform writing (optional)

  • A final edited piece to take away and celebrate

How the programme works

Each session combines:

  • Gentle grounding and check-ins

  • Accessible writing prompts and imaginative exercises

  • Short discussions on creativity, storytelling, and the brain

  • Solo writing, pair and group activities

  • Optional sharing in a supportive, non-judgemental space

Participants always control what they share, and exercises are reflective rather than confessional.

Session themes

  • Identity – Using writing to explore who you are and where you come from

  • Home & Storytelling – How stories help us make sense of experience

  • Unexpected Inspiration – Writing from sound, objects, and clichés

  • Voice & Performance – Rhythm, presence, and writing for page or stage

  • Editing & Craft – Shaping raw writing into a polished creative piece

Who it’s for

This programme is open to writers of all levels, including complete beginners. Exercises are adaptable, supportive of different literacy levels, and designed to meet participants where they are.

Environment & approach

  • Inclusive, trauma-aware facilitation

  • Emphasis on experimentation over perfection

  • Calm, welcoming spaces with flexible seating

  • Celebration of process, growth, and creative risk-taking
