Thinking Outside The Box: Raw’s Latest Programme For 11 - 16 Year Olds
Facilitated by design collective, G2xRCM, young teenagers are invited to set their imaginations free over a 4-day, intensive art and design course.
During the months of summer, Raw Material curates a number of creative programmes tailored specifically towards children on holiday from school. These courses are aimed at giving children the opportunity to engage in the kind of social, creative and collaborative activities that are often not present within the school curriculum. Particularly as teenagers move through secondary school, creative opportunities become fewer and fewer, with creatively-minded children and parents alike often disappointed by the lack of accommodation given to creative skills and interests by the education system.
“It’s about having an idea and bringing it physically to life.”
Set In A Box, a brand new art and design programme at Raw Material, gives children the opportunity design their own artistic set in the style of their favourite artist. They’ll be able to use all kinds of materials, including textiles, wallpaper, mount boards and other sustainable materials, and are even invited to bring their own recycled objects to include as well. What we hope is that the stimulus of designing a set for their favourite artist will get children excited about being creative. Most important is that they produce something that’s personal to them - something that realises their own ideas and expresses their artistic vision.
In exactly a week’s time Set In The Box will kick off, taking place from Monday - Thursday, 11am - 2pm! There’s still time and space to sign up via the link below.
